No. 2: Identifying and Prioritizing Changes

Session Description:

Once you understand how your current system or process works, the next step is to identify change ideas that will result in improvement. Because a lot of change ideas or potential solutions are often generated, improvement tools can help prioritize the change ideas that are likely to be most useful.  This live discussion will provide an opportunity for participants to:

  • Discuss key steps in the quality improvement process
  • Describe ways to identify change ideas to improve the current program/process
  • Prioritize change ideas using an Impact Matrix

Directed Learning Materials:

In preparation for this discussion, please do the following:

  • Think about a problem in your work area and create an aim statement with measures  (review the segments of the QI Step by Step guide if helpful: aim statement, and measures, and ideas)
  • Identify ways to collect data on your process
  • Try to create a process flow diagram (review the following videos if helpful: Process Flow Diagrams and Observations/Gemba Walk
  • Watch the following videos:
