Standards for Systems of Care for Children and Youth with Special Health Care Needs Version 2.0 - 2017
Association of Maternal & Child Health Programs, National Academy for State Health Policy
Abstract: Creating a comprehensive, quality system of care for CYSHCN has been one of the most challenging areas for state health leaders and other stakeholders. To address this challenge, the National Standards describe the core components of the structure and process of an effective system of care for CYSHCN. These National Standards were the result of decades of work to establish an endorsed set of standards that could be used and applied within health care systems to improve quality and outcomes for CYSHCN. The system standards were fully vetted by a national work group comprised of state and national leaders with expertise in CYSHCN, health systems, and quality measurement. Version 2.0 of the National Standards, published in 2017, have been updated to increase the readability and ease of use while also maintaining their integrity and essential content of Version 1.0.
