Each regional collaborative (RC) will serve effectively as a regional center to: expand and improve newborn screening and genetic services for individuals affected or at risk for heritable disorders and their families; translate genomic medicine into health care delivery systems; and assist states in strengthening their capacity to provide genomic information and services to the public. HRSA Healthy Start Initiative: Eliminating Disparities in Perinatal Health (General Population) Grant

The purpose of this program is to address significant disparities in Perinatal health including disparities experienced by Hispanics, American Indians, African-Americans, Asian/Pacific Islanders, and immigrant populations. Differences in perinatal health indicators may occur by virtue of education, age of mother, income, disability, or living in rural/isolated areas. To address disparities and the factors contributing to them in these indicators, it is anticipated that the proposed scope of project services will cover the pregnancy and interconception phases for women and infants residing in the proposed project area. HRSA Healthy Start Initiative: Eliminating Disparities in Perinatal Health (Border, Alaska, and Hawaii) Grant

Under this program, grants will address significant disparities in perinatal health indicators in communities within 62 miles of the U.S. Mexico border or in Alaska and Hawaii. Communities must provide a scope of project services that will cover pregnancy and interconceptional phases for women and infants residing in the proposed project area. Services are to be given to both mother and infant for two years following delivery to promote longer interconceptional periods and prevent relapses of unhealthy risk behaviors. The Office of Citizen Exchanges of the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs announces an open competition for Empowering Women and Girls through Sport Program as part of the International Sports Programming Initiative. CDC Pilot Funding for Surveillance System for High Impact/Low Prevalence Congenital and Inherited Conditions

The purpose of this research is to design and test the feasibility of a surveillance system for congenital and inherited conditions that have low prevalence but high health and economic impact in the U.S. population that will support description of this population across the lifespan. Initial design of this surveillance system will focus on three conditions which exemplify different types of disorders: e.g. spina bifida is an example of a neurological condition affecting mobility; muscular dystrophy is an example of a neuromuscular condition; and fragile X syndrome is an example of a condition affecting cognition and behavior. Section 503 of CHIPRA requires State CHIP programs to follow the requirements of Section 1902(bb) of the Social Security Act (the Act), which implemented a prospective payment system for Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) and Rural Health Clinics (RHCs) under the Medicaid program in 2001. Office of Consumer Information & Insurance Oversight Grants to Support States in Health Insurance Rate Review-Cycle II

Section 1003 of the Affordable Care Act adds a new section 2794 to the Public Health Service (PHS) Act entitled, “Ensuring That Consumers Get Value for Their Dollars,” requires the Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS), in conjunction with the states, to establish a process for the annual review of health insurance premiums to protect consumers from unreasonable rate increases.
