These vital sessions give our colleagues the opportunity to hear the cutting edge concepts and best-practices first-hand from the experts. Your participation shapes the way our industry grows and evolves.

Priority will be given to abstracts that reflect promising and evidence-based practices

Audience
AMCHP represents state public health leaders and others who work to improve the health and well-being of all women, children and families, including those with special health care needs. Other participants at the conference include researchers, academics, advocacy organizations, federal officials and families.

Abstracts must be received by July 23, 2007.

Submitting an Abstract

Review the session formats and indicate your preferred format on the online submission form.
Abstract - Submit a concise abstract (maximum of 2000 characters) including:
Title

Learning objectives of presentation

Impact of presentation on state MCH and CSHCN programs

Results, conclusions and public health implications

Evidence-based or promising practices incorporated into project
Bio - Attach short (2000 characters or less) biographical sketch for each presenter.
You must submit your abstract electronically using the online form.
General Information
Registration Fee Required. If we accept your abstract, you will receive a discount rate for the conference. If you only attend the conference on the day of your presentation, you must still pay the speaker registration fee. If you plan to only attend your session, you are still required to pay the fee. Those not wishing to pay the conference fee should not submit an abstract.
Limited Number of Sessions - new for 2008 - Each speaker is limited to speak and/or moderate at two approved sessions unless prior authorization from AMCHP has been received.
Travel. Speakers must pay for their own travel and lodging. AMCHP will not reimburse these expenses.
Handouts. Handouts are required for every presentation, other than plenaries and poster sessions. You must bring 75 copies of the handouts with you. AMCHP will not be able to make copies at the conference.
Audio Visual. AMCHP will provide an LCD projector and screen for all sessions. Speakers should provide their own laptop. AMCHP will provide a PowerPoint template that you may use for your presentation. AMCHP’s professional communications staff is also available to help speakers polish their presentations upon request.
Taping. AMCHP may audiotape or videotape your session for AMCHP’s website. By submitting an abstract, speakers agree to allow AMCHP and its partners to audio or video record their presentation when appropriate and to make the recording, along with any presentation slides, available to the public free of charge over the Internet. By submitting an abstract, speakers agree to waive all rights of privacy and compensation in connection with the production and reproduction of such materials.
Session Formats
Please select the session format most appropriate for your presentation. AMCHP will make the final format determination and reserves the right to alter or arrange the format of presentations to best meet the goals of the conference.
Pre-Conference Skills Building Sessions - 3½ hour intensive, training sessions These interactive, intensive sessions teach specific skills or knowledge that can be directly applied to family public health. Skills-building sessions allow participants to engage in hands-on activities, develop leadership skills and use job-related tools. Presenters may be alone or accompanied by a panel of their choosing. AMCHP may choose other panelists. Topics should focus on a defined area in family public health, with special emphasis on healthy communities when applicable.

Workshop Sessions - 90-minute panels Each presenter has 15-25 minutes to speak and is usually part of a two-person panel. (No more than three speakers will be allowed in a workshop session; two is ideal.) AMCHP may choose other panelists or combine abstracts into one session. Abstracts including a panel of speakers representing varying perspectives will be given priority in the review process. Workshops include time for questions from the audience. Topics should focus on timely issues in family public health, with special attention to healthy communities.

Plenary Session - 30-60 minute keynote presentations Plenary sessions feature MCH professionals who are exceptional public speakers and well respected in the area of healthy communities. Presenters may speak independently or be part of a panel. AMCHP may choose other panelists.

Poster Sessions – graphic presentations of research or program Presenters will display a graphic representation of their research or program and answer attendees’ questions. No audio-visual equipment permitted. Poster sessions will be held at specified times during the conference.
Session Topics – new for 2008
Abstract submitters must categorize their submission to a primary population from the following:

Adolescent Health
- Child Health
- Children and Youth with Special Health Care Needs
- Women's and Perinatal Health
- Family and Cultural Competence
They may also categorize their submission by strategy type:

Data and Evaluation
- Financing
- State & Local Advocacy
- Systems Building
The elective track for 2008 is Social Justice – submitters may indicate if their submission falls into that category.
Evaluation Criteria
AMCHP will evaluate abstracts based on:

Originality and new findings
-
Relevance to the MCH community
-
Promising and evidence-based practices
-
Focus on the theme of healthy communities
-
Clear methodology
-
Specific results relevant to MCH
Reviewers will give priority to workshops that include various perspectives (e.g., state MCH/CSHCN director, federal partner, consumer, private partner). AMCHP may ask authors to refine the scope of their topic to better fit the conference theme and reserves the right to alter or arrange the format of presentations to best meet the goals of the conference.
AMCHP will notify authors of accepted abstracts by October 1, 2007.
PLEASE NOTE: It is AMCHP policy that all presenters MUST register for the conference and pay the appropriate speaker registration fee. There are no exceptions to this policy.
