 Hurricanes and MCH Response

August 31, 2017

Recent hurricanes have delivered an unprecedented challenge to health workers in Texas, Louisiana, Florida, and Puerto Rico, including the staff, leaders, agencies and organizations devoted to protecting maternal and child health (MCH). As governmental public health professionals, we understand disasters like Harvey have long-term impacts on mothers, fathers, infants, children, and entire families.

"AMCHP urges everyone in the MCH field to pause to appreciate the work of their public health colleagues in Harvey's path, and to re-dedicate themselves to being prepared for emergencies that arise from natural disasters," said Lori Tremmel Freeman, CEO of AMCHP.

AMCHP will closely monitor areas impacted by the hurricanes to determine how we might help in their recovery efforts. AMCHP has bundled these key resources for MCH emergency preparedness and response, including reports, toolkits, and presentations.
