AMCHP working on your behalf.
On Jun. 16-17, AMCHP staff Maria Murillo and Kate Taft helped facilitate the 2015 State Public Health Autism Resource Center (SPHARC) Peer-to-Peer Exchange on "Considering Culture in Autism Screening and Systems of Care." Hosted by the Massachusetts HRSA Autism Planning Grant team and Act Early State team, the meeting was held at the Boston Children's Museum and brought together seven state teams (CT, IA, MA, ME, MN, NH and VA) to brainstorm and problem solve educating parents from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds about healthy developmental milestones in young children and reducing early identification barriers for autism and other developmental disorders. The meeting included a training on the Considering Culture in Autism Screening curriculum, sharing strategies and models of intervention, and creating action plans inspired by the wisdom shared from the state efforts. More information on this meeting and prior Peer-to-Peer Exchanges can be found on the SPHARC website.
