Health Plan Approaches to Childhood Injury Prevention
Injury is the number one killer of children and teens in the United States. Many of these injuries are preventable through education and low-cost interventions such as childproof locks and safety seats. With funding from the CDC, the National Institute for Health Care Management (NIHCM) and the Education Development Center has partnered to raise awareness about child injury, introduce solutions and mobilize action to reduce injuries nationwide. This brief presents the latest evidence on the prevalence and cost of unintentional injuries, and it highlights health plan injury prevention activities and other potential interventions.
