WIC Breastfeeding Funding Update
Last week, the House Appropriations Committee approved the FY 2014 House Agriculture Appropriations bill, which funds WIC at $6.655 billion in FY2014. AMCHP Leadership Institute for State CYSHCN Directors
AMCHP, with a grant from the Lucile Packard Foundation for Children’s Health, is implementing the Leadership Institute for State Children and Youth with Special Health Care Needs (CYSHCN) Directors. The overall purpose of the project is to improve the effectiveness of state CYSHCN directors to lead and transform their programs in a time of change and health reform. The ultimate goal of the project is to strengthen state systems of care for CYSHCN. [More]

Every Mother Initiative Request for Applications -- Deadline Extended!
With support of Merck for Mothers, AMCHP is launching the Every Mother Initiative to help states address maternal health issues in their community through strengthening and enhancing state maternal mortality surveillance systems (MMSS) and use the data from these systems to take action in developing and implementing population-based strategies and policy change to prevent maternal death and improve maternal health outcomes.   • AMCHP staff Caroline Stampfel and Andria Cornell participated in the Fifth Annual Summit on Breastfeeding convened by the Academy of Breastfeeding Medicine on June 19-20, 2013 in Washington, DC. In a session on national level leadership, Caroline shared what AMCHP does on behalf of our members to support breastfeeding promotion and shared state examples of how Title V supports MCH programs that promote breastfeeding.

DentaQuest Foundation Grants for Optimal Oral Health Campaigns
Deadline: Rolling
Through its Innovation Fund for Oral Health, DentaQuest will award up to $4.45 million in grants this year in support of projects that identify and work to overcome barriers to optimal oral health. [more]

Building and Supporting Core Public Health Capacities Related to Violence and Injury Prevention Grant
Deadline: Jun. 25
The purpose of this grant is to strengthen violence and injury prevention programs by enhancing state and local health departments. The grantee will help to increase the adoption and implementation of public health violence and injury policy and evidence based program strategies. [more]

Street Outreach Program Grant
Deadline: Jun. 28
This will fund grantees to provide street-based services to runaway, homeless, and street youth who have been subjected to, or are at risk of being subjected to, sexual abuse, prostitution, or sexual exploitation. These services are provided in areas where street youth congregate and are designed to assist such youth in making healthy choices regarding where they live and how they behave.
