We are deeply saddened by the events yesterday at the Boston Marathon and our thoughts are with the people of the city of Boston and the state of Massachusetts as they continue to deal with this horrific tragedy. As we try to understand this terrible event, and we wait for additional details to be released, we start to think about policies and programs that support the mental health of our nation. What role does our public health system play in addressing the root causes of violence and how can we support our citizens during these unimaginable events? Again, our hearts go out to the families and friends of those who were impacted by this staggering incident.
