CDC March Grand Rounds: Teen Pregnancy
This month, CDC grand rounds will focus on reducing teen pregnancy in the United States. Experts will present topics covering evidence-based sexual health education, support for parents in talking with their children about pregnancy prevention and other aspects of sexual and reproductive health, and ready access to effective and affordable contraception for teens who are sexually active. Parents, educators, public health and medical professionals, and community organizations all have a role to play in reducing teen pregnancy. The webcast will take place on Mar. 19 at 1 p.m. EST. CDC Accepting Applications for PHPH Host Agencies
State and local health departments and other public health agencies interested in hosting a 2012 CDC Public Health Prevention Service (PHPS) fellow for a two-year field assignment may now apply. PHPS fellows have master's degrees and at least one year of public health experience prior to beginning the PHPS fellowship. Applications are due Apr. 5; assignments will begin in October 2013.
Register Now for Conference on Health Disparities Research
This conference, At the Intersection of Race, Ethnicity, and Disability, will bring together researchers, advocates, and policymakers to share information and discuss racial, ethnic, and disability-related disparities. Attendees will learn about barriers to health care and health promotion for people with disabilities in underserved racial and ethnic groups, share research work on the intersection of racial/ethnic disparities and disabilities, and discuss priorities for future research and action. The conference is sponsored by the Agency for Health Research and Quality, the Association of University Centers on Disabilities, and the Special Hope Foundation. Register for AAP Conference on Quality Improvement Science for Children’s Health Care Research
The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) will host the third annual conference on pediatric quality improvement (QI) methods, research and evaluation on May 3. The meeting will focus on state-of-the-art methods for pediatric health care QI research and bring together leaders and innovators in pediatric QI research. Topics will include challenges of using these methods and developing an agenda for further improving and applying QI research methodologies, as well as integrating evidence-based quality improvement strategies into front-line QI efforts such as maintenance of certification. Individuals with interest and/or experience in how to conduct, evaluate, apply, or interpret quality improvement research should attend. CME credit is available.
