AMCHP Working On Your Behalf
- On Mar. 8 and 9, AMCHP staff attended the HHS Secretary’s Advisory Committee on Infant Mortality (SACIM) in Bethesda, MD. The agenda included the SACIM presentation of preliminary recommendations to the HHS Office of Health Reform, presentations from federal partners – MCHB, CMS and CDC – and from the March of Dimes, as well as the ASTHO Presidential Challenge on Healthy Babies. The agenda also included presentations form state programs, including Ruth Ann Shepherd from Kentucky, Rebecca Gee from Louisiana, and Belinda Pettiford from North Carolina. Next steps for the SACIM include finalizing their recommendations and developing concrete action steps to offer the secretary within the coming weeks. The committee agreed that their final recommendations and action steps would have a guiding emphasis on actionable steps that acknowledge the need for systems improvement, but allow immediate and concrete action against infant mortality in the United States. AMCHP members Ruth Ann Shepherd and Melinda Sanders represent Title V as SACIM members.
- On Mar. 12 and 13, AMCHP staff members from the Women’s and Infant Health Team attended the 2012 National Healthy Start Association Conference. AMCHP staff shared resources and information as exhibitors in the conference exhibition hall and connected with Healthy Start program staff and national partners throughout the various conference events.
