This Week in Congress
The House of Representatives plans to take up an omnibus appropriations package that combines all 12 appropriations bills, including Labor-Health and Human Services (Labor-HHS), where Title V Block Grant funding is housed. This bill appropriates $641.7 million for the Title V MCH Block Grant in fiscal 2018. The Senate Appropriations Committee will consider its Labor-HHS bill and the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee will hold hearings on insurance market stabilization.
Congress will soon begin making decisions on how to approach emergency relief in the wake of Hurricane Harvey – decisions that will probably impact how Congress deals with other pressing needs as the Sept. 30 deadline looms to keep the government funded, extend important programs such as CHIP and MIECHV, and increase the debt ceiling.
