CDC scientists analyzed Zika pathology testing in 2016 from pregnancies in the states and Washington, D.C., finding that tissue testing is a valuable tool to identify Zika cases when blood tests from a pregnant woman were not definitive for Zika. [more]

Website Seeks to Strengthen Maternal Mortality Reviews to Reduce Pregnancy-Related Deaths
AMCHP has launched a website to promote the maternal mortality review process as the gold standard for measuring and reducing pregnancy related death. Review to Action advances the measurement of pregnancy-related deaths and the translation of maternal mortality review findings into population-based solutions and interventions, and serves as a resource for best practices in maternal mortality review.

DRH Updates Webpage on Severe Maternal Morbidity 

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Division of Reproductive Health updated its webpage on severe maternal morbidity (SMM) to provide the most current information about trends in SMM in the U.S. [more]

Translational Research in Pediatric and Obstetric Pharmacology and Therapeutics

For translational and clinical research, as well as clinical trials, that advance knowledge about the underlying mechanisms of drug action, response, and safety of women and children during pregnancy and lactation, with a goal of improving the safety and effectiveness of drugs for pediatric and obstetric patients.

Improving Outcomes for Children Affected by Substance Abuse
Administration for Children and Families
Deadline: July 10
Targeted grants will be awarded to regional partnerships that provide, through interagency collaboration and integration of programs and services, activities and services that are designed to increase the well-being of, improve permanency outcomes for, and enhance the safety of children who are in out-of-home placements or are at risk of entering out-of-home placements as a result of a partner's or caretaker's substance abuse.

National Training and Development Initiative for Foster/Adoptive Parents
Administration for Children and Families
Deadline: July 10
Will award one cooperative agreement to an organization to develop a state-of-the-art foster/adoptive parent training program to include intensive preparation and development components that reflect the capacities required of successful foster/adoptive parents.
