Continued Uncertainty in Timing for Key Action
Although Congress and the administration are keeping busy on many fronts, the timing for action on key items such as the budget and Affordable Care Act (ACA) repeal/replace efforts seem even more uncertain. While we were expecting to see an outline of the president's budget by the end of February, reports emerged this week that the White House may forego this process altogether, especially in light of the fact that the nominee to head the Office of Management and Budget, Rep. Mick Mulvaney, hasn't yet been confirmed, meaning that we may not see the president's budget priorities until late April or May. Meanwhile, on the ACA repeal/replace front, President Trump said in an interview over the weekend that it may not be until next year that a new health plan is rolled out, leaving greater confusion about the process moving forward on repeal. On one hand, there are a number of members of Congress who have indicated they will not vote for any repeal of the ACA without a simultaneous replacement plan whereas others are eager to move the repeal process along as quickly as possible. We will keep you updated if and when details become any clearer.
