Senate Begins Debate on Labor-HHS Appropriations
This week, the U.S. Senate is debating a legislative package that includes two of the 12 Fiscal Year 2019 (FY19) funding bills: defense and labor, health and human services, and education (Labor-HHS). Senate Appropriations Chairman Richard Shelby (R-Ala.) stated that he expects the Senate will pass the two-bill "minibus" by Labor Day. AMCHP will be monitoring the amendment process for possible changes to the FY19 funding levels proposed in the Labor-HHS bill (S.3158) for the Title V Maternal and Child Health (MCH) Services Block Grant and other MCH programs.
As a reminder, the Senate Appropriations Committee approved S.3158 in June 2018. For further details on what's included in the bill, please see AMCHP's 3-page summary of key maternal and child health provisions.
