Background & Bio
Nia’s work in public health began over 10 years ago as an HIV peer educator in Washington, DC. Prior to joining AMCHP, Nia worked across several public health sectors including non-profit, local, and state government as a health educator, prevention specialist, and capacity-building specialist focusing on sexual and reproductive health, adolescent health, substance abuse prevention, and community wellness. She also has experience working as an adjunct instructor at several higher-education minority-serving institutions including her alma mater, North Carolina Central University, and at Morgan State University, where she is currently earning a Doctorate of Public Health. Continuing her initial passion to improve sexual and reproductive health, Nia created and presently hosts an adult sexuality education and storytelling podcast.

My Current Work
At AMCHP, Nia works across several teams to harvest and develop compelling stories and narratives that provide context to and support AMCHP’s policy and programmatic work. Bridging from her previous AMCHP role as Program Manager, Emergency Preparedness and Response on the Workforce Development and Capacity Building Team, Nia leads the team of staff who developed Building Resilience from Lived Experience: AMCHP’s Collection of Public Health Emergency Preparedness and Response Stories. As the organizational storyteller, Nia’s work supports AMCHP’s MCH Bridges podcast, the annual AMCHP conference, AMCHP Communications, building staff, member, and partner capacity for gathering and telling stories, centering the voices of those with lived experience in all that we do.
